These exquisite antique earrings were crafted sometime during the Victorian design period (1845-1900). The 18K gold settings feature six rose cut diamonds each. The rose diamond cut was a very primitive diamond cut executed by hand, using another diamond as a cutting tool. It is considered one of the oldest diamond cuts. Each earring also features one antique cut emerald. The settings were designed to resemble leaves of ivy. During the Victorian time period different plants and flowers were seen as symbolic and assigned different meanings, especially when given as a gift. This practice is sometimes referred to as Victorian flower language. Ivy during the Victorian time period would have represented marital loyalty. These earrings were likely commissioned as a wedding or anniversary gift. Each earring measures approximately one inch in length and features simple French hooks.
